Episode 19 – It’s coming home, it’s coming! Football’s coming home!

Weekend Warm-Up!

After last weekend, it’s been an uphill struggle this week to recover from lost sleep. After the euphoria of last weekend and winning that craved-for cup on Sunday, I’ve certainly felt the repercussions this week.

Despite my seemingly never-ending tiredness, I’ve managed to finish up on Uncharted: Drakes Fortune and I have moved onto the second one, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves. If you’re interested in reading my thoughts on the two (soon to be four) games, check out my blog series “Uncharted Is Overrated, And What?”.

Uncharted is overrated, and what? Pt. 3

One down, three to go! That’s right, I finally finished Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune from the Nathan Drake Collection. I say ‘finally’ as if the game was a drag, which it felt like in parts but it didn’t take all that long in reality. I managed to finish the whole thing on hard in just over 6 hours. Although many may see that as a bad thing, for me, I’m happy with that. I suppose that you can forgive the game being so short because, as part of the Uncharted: Nathan Drake Collection, you’ve got three titles to play. The thought of buying this game for £40 though, on it’s own in 2007, is a frightening one. Me though? I just wanted to get it over and done with as quickly as possible.

Uncharted is overrated, and what? Pt. 2

PREVIOUS POST – NEXT POST

I’m playing the Uncharted series in its entirety. Once I’m finished, only then can I fully justify my negative opinions of it. Over the course of my journey I’ll post little snippets of how I’m doing and whether my opinion is changing.

What better place to start than at the beginning? Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune. A game that I’ve never even seen in action.

I said that I was playing this game with a clear mind, without any previous thoughts or opinions. I did, I loaded it up without any prejudice whatsoever… but it’s just not very good is it? I’m around 4-5 hours in and I’m just so bored.

I’ve said this before, but I’ll say it again: I’m not a huge fan of the Uncharted series.

However, this brave and unpopular opinion of mine has been formed without properly experiencing the games. I’ve played a little bit of Uncharted 2: Among Thieves and even less of Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception, but that’s about it. At the minute, I’d say I’m relatively impartial on the whole; I’ve never been captivated enough to show much of an interest but I’ve always been convinced that the series is ‘overrated’ and have often labelled it as such.

“What did you do, Nathan?” | “I said that Uncharted was overrated!”

So, I thought I’d finally bite the bullet and experience one of the most revered game series of all time. I have gathered up all of my prejudice and I’ve thrown it to one side whilst I work my way through the Nathan Drake Collection with open eyes. Once I’ve finished them all and then Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End too, I feel that I’ll be sufficiently qualified to say whatever the hell I want to about the whole series.

Remastered games: Cash and Grab?

Standard

There are some games that are just too amazing to be forgotten. Whether it be the story, the characters, the gameplay, or everything combined; gaming publishers and their fans know when a game has made its mark. But alas, even the best games only enjoy a certain amount of fame and time in the immediate spotlight. Eventually, every good thing must come to an end.

Kratos

Kratos from God Of War. Look at those pearly whites!

So when nostalgia is not enough and it no longer satisfies a fan base, what is there left to do? Well, remaster the game, of course.

Episode 17 – Uncharted Territory!

Weekend Warm-Up!

I haven’t done an awful lot of gaming this week. In fact, I’ve probably done more blogging. It’s been a shorter week than usual with it being a bank holiday, so I’ve been majorly busy working and I tend to play sports in an evening. Monday tends to be my go-to gaming night of the week, but as I was lucky to have the day off, I count that as my weekend just gone.

All I’ve really played this week is Elite: Dangerous. Early last week I collected a few of my thoughts and wrote them down in my ‘10-hour Thoughts’ post, and there’s so much more I could have droned on about as the game is literally that huge. I’d say that I’m pretty good at it now. Now that I’ve got a big ship that can really handle it’s own in a skirmish, it’s really opened the game up with new things to do. Before, In my pathetic starter ship the best course of action when threatened was to run away. Similar in the cargo ship I bought, it was tougher but useless in a straight up gun-battle. So finally earning enough cash to buy something that’s pretty good at everything was a great feeling. As such, I’m really enjoying the combat and I like hunting bounties and deserters to assassinate. I’ve had fun fighting off pirates who have pulled my out of hyperspace too.
