I’m looking for A Way Out of this single-player monotony

I love cooperative games. Playing with a buddy and working together to overcome scenarios makes me feel all fuzzy inside. Personally, I’ll always prefer split-screening locally as opposed to playing online. I just think there’s something to relish when you’re sat right next to your mate, sibling or some random bum you’ve pulled off the street.

Battlefield 1 has written off my weekend

It’s awful planning on my part; I’ve got so much to write about, but when do I decide to set this blog up? Only on the day Battlefield 1 is released!

I picked it up this morning, set an alarm and everything. I know I could have gotten it earlier in a load of different ways, but I’ve had lots to do this week… Namely finish off ‘The Journey’ on FIFA 17, and lets not forget Gears of War 4 came out too.

I don’t know what it is about the Battlefield series that gets my juices flowing, even BF: Hardline gripped me harder than a prisoner holds on to his soap in the showers. I couldn’t stop playing and this game is no exception. Right from the off, the introductory sequence has you fighting off an endless onslaught of Germans, and it’s so mouth-wateringly beautiful. It’s a well conceived tutorial without really referring to itself as a tutorial. It introduces you to many of the key aspects of the game, you use a variety of guns, jump onto a turrent, get to ride a tank and horrifically die several times. You’re meant to die in order to change role and it’s a really unique concept. I felt that every time I died, it actually had some meaning. I doubt that this carries all the way through the game but it was a clever touch.

Multiplayer is where it’s at though, and it’s back to its usual roots found in BF3 and BF4. Large scale battles and expansive maps; the key ingredients in any Battlefield game. The level design from what I’ve played is fantastic. There are so many nooks and crannies to have epic firefights in and no two games feel the same.

I can’t believe I’ve taken a break to write this… I’m logging back in.
