Episode 19 – It’s coming home, it’s coming! Football’s coming home!

Weekend Warm-Up!

After last weekend, it’s been an uphill struggle this week to recover from lost sleep. After the euphoria of last weekend and winning that craved-for cup on Sunday, I’ve certainly felt the repercussions this week.

Despite my seemingly never-ending tiredness, I’ve managed to finish up on Uncharted: Drakes Fortune and I have moved onto the second one, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves. If you’re interested in reading my thoughts on the two (soon to be four) games, check out my blog series “Uncharted Is Overrated, And What?”.

Episode 18 – Championes! Ole! Ole! Ole!

Weekend Warm-Up!

It’s been a torrid time for gaming news this week. Square Enix have given IO Interactive, the studio responsible for the greatly loved Hitman games, the boot. Square initially assumed ownership of IO when it bought Eidos Interactive, IO’s parent company. But in a statement released on Friday, the Japanese publisher says “to maximise player satisfaction as well as market potential going forward”, they have “regrettably decided to withdraw from the business of IO INTERACTIVE”. “As a result of this the Company started discussions with potential new investors and is currently in negotiations to secure this investment”, Square’s statement adds. “Whilst there can be no guarantees that the negotiations will be concluded successfully, they are being explored since this is in the best interests of our shareholders, the studio and the industry as a whole.” It’s unclear what this means exactly for the Danish studio and its staff, who aside from Hitman have also been responsible for Kane & Lynch and the criminally underrated Mini Ninjas, though it certainly suggests that Square is in the process of entertaining offers for the sale of IO. It also doesn’t explain what happens to the Hitman IP once the two companies split, or what the future holds for Hitman‘s new seasonal release model.

Episode 17 – Uncharted Territory!

Weekend Warm-Up!

I haven’t done an awful lot of gaming this week. In fact, I’ve probably done more blogging. It’s been a shorter week than usual with it being a bank holiday, so I’ve been majorly busy working and I tend to play sports in an evening. Monday tends to be my go-to gaming night of the week, but as I was lucky to have the day off, I count that as my weekend just gone.

All I’ve really played this week is Elite: Dangerous. Early last week I collected a few of my thoughts and wrote them down in my ‘10-hour Thoughts’ post, and there’s so much more I could have droned on about as the game is literally that huge. I’d say that I’m pretty good at it now. Now that I’ve got a big ship that can really handle it’s own in a skirmish, it’s really opened the game up with new things to do. Before, In my pathetic starter ship the best course of action when threatened was to run away. Similar in the cargo ship I bought, it was tougher but useless in a straight up gun-battle. So finally earning enough cash to buy something that’s pretty good at everything was a great feeling. As such, I’m really enjoying the combat and I like hunting bounties and deserters to assassinate. I’ve had fun fighting off pirates who have pulled my out of hyperspace too.

Episode 16 – WARNING: Social Levels Depleted

Weekend Warm-Up!

April’s always a tough month for me. It tends to hit my wallet rather aggressively and in most cases I end up scraping the barrel at around this time. I’ve got a few big birthday’s during April, namely my Mum’s and my girlfriend’s, nether of which I can really scrimp on. On top of this, Samsung have released their new flagship phone and I’ve just aimlessly thrown money their way to get it.

But it is pretty… fingers crossed it doesn’t spontaneously combust in my pocket.

Episode 15 – “Watch the thrust!”

Weekend Warm-Up!

I’ve made a vow to make Horizon Zero Dawn my very first PS4 platinum. Having said that, I’ve actually already got a platinum trophy linked with my PSN account and that was for Resistance: Burning Skies on the PS Vita. Hey, I’m pretty new to the whole PlayStation thing so don’t scoff at me like that! As much as I enjoy trophy hunting, I’m certainly not obsessed with getting them all. Sure, the nice round 100% figure looks lovely, but it’s not something I’d tend to strive for unless it was for a game I’m truly in love with… which is certainly the case with Horizon Zero Dawn. Although I’m relatively new to the PlayStation side of things, I’ve very much been an achievement whore in the past on my Xbox, there’s many a game on there I’ve gotten 1000G on. The one I’m most ashamed of? Avatar: The Last Airbender – The Burning Earth of course… 1000G in less than 2 minutes? It’s so cringe-worthy.

Episode 14 – Happy Easter!

Over the Easter weekend, I’ve been rather busy. So much so that I never had chance to write the first part of my Weekend Run-Through, so I’ll be doing things a little differently this week. I’ll just get straight down to business and let you all know what mischief I managed to get up to without the bulk (I’m not even sure if you guys appreciate that stuff anyway!). So, let’s start with Good Friday.

Episode 13 – How do I cure Sanguinare Vampiris?

“Just like that, as mysteriously as he arrived, he was gone”…

That’s right, the weekend has been and gone. If you blinked, you may have missed it!

That’s what I did, I blinked. The weekend flew by and I never managed to even power my console on.

It’s like the least gamer thing to say, but this weekend I actually left the comfort of my dark, little cesspit and enjoyed the sun. The graphics were pretty good and I didn’t have any drop in frame rate. Let’s face it, residing in the UK is pretty much a guarantee for gloomy weather, which explains why most of us are so gloomy ourselves.
